Want to Help?

Thank you for your interest in helping out with Fall Feast.  We will soon be kicking off a full calendar of events in 2010, stay tuned for updates on the following events:

Understand, engage, and work to eliminate poverty in our city–
  • Volunteers and the community can engage in serving the homeless at the City Gospel Mission on two designated Saturday’s for Give Back Volunteers to roll up their sleeves and work the kitchen.  Our hope is that showing a simple and easy way to serve will provide a bridge to on-going service.
  • We are teaming up with Saint Vincent DePaul to provide a poverty immersion event to experience poverty by walking a mile in the shoes of the underserved.  This event will imbed our volunteers in the everyday challenges faced by our community’s poor.  Although this is just a day, we hope the lessons learned will transform people’s thoughts on poverty.
  • Instead of walking a mile in their shoes, we are teaming up to run alongside some of our communities underserved (up to 13 miles) in a training program with the City Gospel Mission.  This program helps build confidence and teach life lessons while the participants achieve their goal of completing a 5k, 10k, or even half marathon.
  • To help prepare people to engage with the underserved on Thanksgiving Day and hopefully throughout the year, we will host an event with City Gospel Mission called understanding poverty, which will walk people through the totality of poverty’s affect on people’s lives.  The presentation will be followed by question and answer sessions and a screening of a movie relating to engaging poverty.

For the big event on Thansgiving there are several ways you can volunteer:

1)  Participate - Share-A-Meal

Be a part of our celebration, come join the meal, meet a new neighbor and share in this celebration.  The most meaningful 'gift' we can give during the holiday season is our time, sitting and sharing with others who may not have people in their daily lives.  We encourage you to come and share-a-meal with our fellow community members.  Everyone is welcome to join but by RSVPing you can help us to know how many people are coming.

2)  Donate - if you are interested in contributing financially to the Fall Feast, you can do so with a secure on-line donation.  With your contributions of any amount, we can continue to grow this celebration. Just hit the Donate button at the top of this page and follow the easy instructions.

3)  Spread the word - you can help us by sharing an invitation with neighbors, co-workers, friends, and family.

4)  PARTICIPATE - Street Teams Publicity

This year, we will be hitting the streets – sending teams into local neighborhoods to tell people about Fall Feast and personally invite them to attend.  We’ll be setting up stations to give away free coffee, passing out flyers, and hanging up posters to spread the word about the event.  As a past Fall Feast volunteer, you know what a great event this is and what an impact it can have on our friends and neighbors.  So, help us spread the word!

5) PARTICIPATE - Serve A Meal ON THANKSGIVING

Thanks to all of you who have RSVPd, we have filled all of our designated slots for prepping, plating, serving food; bussing tables; serving beverages; hosting; welcoming guests; assisting in the kidzone; and other odd jobs which make the day go smoothly.
